Frequently asked questions
Below you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our medical house. Can’t find your answer? Feel free to contact us at 03 219 43 93 or info@huisartsen-blancefloer.be. You can also find general information about medical houses on the NIHDI/RIZIV website.
The flat-rate system
What is the flat-rate system?
It is an agreement between the medical house, your health insurance fund and yourself. Your health insurance fund pays the practice a fixed monthly amount per registered patient. You no longer pay anything for consultations, home visits or home nursing care, and you no longer need to bring in certificates of care.
Do all health insurance funds participate?
Yes. All health insurance funds take part in this system.
Are registration and consultations really free?
Yes. Registration, your consultations and the creation of your medical file are completely free. We charge no personal contribution or annual registration fee.
What costs do I still pay myself?
The flat rate covers ordinary consultations and home visits, home nursing care and physiotherapy within the medical house. You still pay for:
- medicines, laboratory tests, specialist consultations and hospital admissions — as before, through your health insurance fund;
- technical procedures (for example a suture, an ECG or a smear test): you only pay the patient’s co-payment;
- services outside the official fee schedule, such as an infiltration (€10) or a no-show (€10, if you fail to attend without notice);
- consultations with the diabetes nurse (only the patient’s co-payment).
Will my health insurance fund become more expensive?
No. Your contributions and reimbursements for specialists, pharmacy, dentist and other care do not change.
Can I deregister again?
Yes, you can deregister free of charge every month. You notify the medical house or your health insurance fund; deregistration takes effect at the end of the month (or later if you choose, up to a maximum of three months). After deregistration you can no longer receive care at our practice. Deregistration is not possible during a trial period (see below).
What is the trial period?
At your first registration you can opt for a trial period of up to three months. During this period you still pay fee-for-service and can get to know the practice at your own pace. After that, the flat rate begins. The trial period is a one-off and cannot be extended.
What happens to my medical data?
Your data is shared within our care team to provide you with safe and continuous care. You manage your own data-sharing consents via mijngezondheid.be or you let us know.
Questions about Huisartsen Blancefloer
From when does the practice operate as a medical house?
From 1 July 2026, our practice operates as a medical house. The care stays the same; only the way of paying changes — to your advantage.
Who can register and how?
You can register if you live in our care area. Registration is a one-off and the number of places is limited, so register in good time. There are two ways:
- Via your personal link. You receive it by email; if we don’t have your email address, we send it by post. Your name, address and national register number are already pre-filled from our file, and via the same page you can also register the family members living at your address. You sign in one of these ways:
- On paper: download the pre-filled form, print it, sign it and hand the original copy to our secretariat (by post or in the letterbox). Please do not scan it yourself — under RIZIV regulations we need the signed original.
- Electronically with eID: sign with your identity card and its PIN code, a card reader and the free eID software (installation is explained during registration). Signing with itsme® is not possible.
- At the practice. Drop by with the identity card of yourself and the family members you wish to register — we will help you on the spot.
All conditions and the procedure can be found on the Registration page.
What changes for my home nursing care?
As a medical house, we are ultimately responsible for your GP care and your home nursing care; their payment also runs through us. We can entrust this care to external home nurses, but under our responsibility and according to our arrangements. As a result, you cannot automatically keep your current home nurse: we check whether a collaboration is possible, but this is not always the case. The final decision on who provides your home nursing care lies with our practice. Do you currently receive home nursing care? Feel free to contact us so we can look into it together.
Can I register without being ill?
Absolutely. In fact, we recommend it. This allows us to request your complete medical history before you need care.
Do all family members need to register?
No, registration is always individual — each family member chooses for themselves. However, we cannot refuse a family member of an already registered patient. Unregistered family members do not receive flat-rate reimbursement for their care with us.
Are newborns automatically registered?
No. Make an appointment in time to register your baby as soon as they are affiliated with a health insurance fund.
My address or health insurance fund has changed — what should I do?
Let the secretariat know as soon as possible so that your file remains up to date.
Can I still see a specialist?
Yes, you retain the free choice of specialist. We recommend coming to us first: with a referral letter, your reimbursement is often higher.
I am not registered but need urgent care.
Contact the practice; we will look together at what is possible.
Who do I contact outside opening hours?
Our practice is accessible on working days from 08:00 to 18:00. For urgent medical help outside those hours, call the on-call service. All information is on the On-call service page.
Do you do home visits?
We provide the best care when you come to the practice. A home visit is intended for patients who truly cannot travel. More information on the Home visit page.
What if my doctor is on leave?
The practice remains accessible year-round; our doctors cover for each other. You can therefore always see a colleague from the team.
I am temporarily staying in another region.
For care outside our area or during an organised on-call service, the medical house covers the costs. Hand us the certificate of care and we will arrange the reimbursement.
Do I always see the same doctor?
We are a group practice with a shared medical file and regular team meetings. You can see any doctor in the team; where possible, the same doctor follows up a specific care pathway.
How we work
Can I have a blood test done at your practice?
Yes. Blood is drawn at our practice by a nurse from the laboratory (not by our own practice nurse) — no appointment is needed. More information on the Blood test page.
Do you stitch wounds?
Yes, for most wounds you can come to us. Extensive injuries are referred to the emergency department; further wound care is then planned with the nurse.
Can you help me with diabetes?
Yes. Type 2 diabetes is managed in phases:
- Start-up pathway (opstarttraject): we handle this entirely ourselves at the practice.
- Care pathway (zorgtraject): in collaboration with a specialist — we preferably refer to our own specialists on the Left Bank.
- Diabetes convention: followed up in principle by the specialist, but we also help monitor it.
We also have an accredited diabetes nurse.
Do you prescribe homeopathy or herbal remedies?
We practise evidence-based medicine and do not prescribe homeopathic remedies. If you use herbal or homeopathic products yourself, always mention this, as they may interact with other medication.
Do you do prevention?
Yes, prevention is a core part of our work. Feel free to make an appointment to discuss a personalised prevention plan together.
Can I discuss palliative care and advance care planning?
Absolutely. We encourage you to discuss your wishes regarding care and end of life in good time through an advance care planning conversation. We listen to your wishes and record them in your file.
